Gabriel Iglesias (born on July 15, 1976) (sometimes misspelled as Gabriel Iglesia, Gabrielle Iglesias) is a comedian who is best known for his loud, funny voices and animated style of comedy.
Iglesias was born in Long Beach, California. He is the self-proclaimed "Fluffy Man" (as opposed to fat), in reference to his large frame and his own joke about the Five Levels of Fatness (which are Big, Healthy, Husky, Fluffy and "DAMN!"). In 2009 he introduced a Sixth Level of Fatness namely "Oh Hell No!". He has made several guest appearances on The Tonight Show, The Late Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Showtime at the Apollo, Que Locos, as well as three of his own specials on Comedy Central, one of which was voted the half-hour "special of the year for 2003."[1] In 2000, he was a series regular for season 6 of All That on Nickelodeon. In 2006, Iglesias was a finalist in the fourth season of "Last Comic Standing," until he was disqualified for multiple violations of the contest agreement, including using a BlackBerry. Iglesias was named Comedian of the Year by Comedy Central in 2006.
Iglesias has done a few independent films and voice-over work for Disney Emperor's New School and Family Guy. His most recent project was a one hour special called Hot & Fluffy which aired August 4, 2007, and was released to DVD four days later. It has sold over 250,000 copies making him a double platinum selling artist. He also appeared on the hit TV show "My Wife and Kids," as a Japanese chef.
Iglesias can be seen in comedy clubs and theaters nationally, touring with his friends and fellow comedians, Martin Moreno, and Noe Gonzalez.

The high-octane comedian from Long Beach, CA. has been selling out comedy clubs from Los Angeles to Bangor, Maine and everywhere in between. Gabriel has an ability with voice effects and impressions that is absolutely breath taking. Gabriel's talent on stage has earned him several television appearances and prestigious honors. Gabriel is also a budding actor. He has been seen on the ABC sitcom, "My Wife and Kids," He has made appearances on Showtime's original series, "Resurrection Blvd." and VH1's "I Love the 80's." One year after starting to perform stand-up Gabriel was one of the stars on the popular award winning Nickelodeon show, "All That." Iglesias was one of the most well liked actors on the show and won the Kids Choice Award for favorite character on the show.
This is just the start for this humble, yet talented young performer. He is hard working and constantly busy on the next project. He donates much of his time to performing for different charities, and has spent time in different cities speaking to high school students of the importance of staying in school, avoiding gangs, and going after your dream.
Gabriel "Picachu" Iglesias' style of comedy is a mixture of story telling with characters and sound effects that bring all his personal issues to life. His amazing ability to cross over with a clean animated style of comedy has put him in big demand throughout the stand-up comedy circuit. Ask anyone who has seen him in concert and you will probably hear the same thing, "He was so funny!"
Gabriel, one of the rising stars in the recent boom of Latino comedians, was put on the map by the Galavision TV show, "Que Locos!". This highly successful television comedy hour quickly spawned into a nationwide tour of sold-out performances across the country. The experience not only helped to develop Gabriel's loyal fan base, but also led to additional film and television roles. He has guest-starred on ABC's "My Wife & Kids," Showtime's "Resurrection Boulevard" and was involved in the WB pilot for "Deez Nuts". His stand-up has been featured on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Good Morning America," "Showtime at the Apollo" and BET's "Comic View" to name a few. On the big screen, he has been seen in the independent film "El Matador," and coming in 2005, Gabriel will star in "The Surfer King," where he will play the role of Aokee, the manager of a water park Surf and Snack Shack.
Known as the "fluffy" comic in the Hawaiian shirt, the 27-year old funny man often riffs about his girthy middle - whether it's talking about how little dancing it takes for him to work up a sweat at the nightclub, or how hearing his girlfriend coo the words "chocolate cake" over the telephone works for him like phone sex.
Gabriel performs stand-up nightly while spreading his positive message of laughter by day at high schools. He includes in his punch lines messages about the hazards of alcohol and the importance of voting. In 2000, Gabriel won a Kid's Choice Award for the Nickelodean TV show "All That." He then won the Comedy Central & Comcast Cable's Comedy Special of the year in 2003 and in 2004 & 2005 was voted into the Top 25 of Comedy Central's Standup Showdown.
The youngest of six children, Gabriel spent his first five years living on the eastside of Chula Vista. By the age of eight Gabriel and his mother were on their own and making a fresh start in the city of Long Beach. One night Gabriel's mother took him to the local video store where he rented a comedy tape starring Eddie Murphy. Two weeks later he was motivated to audition for his 5th grade talent show and to his suprise he was the hit of the show. Gabriel's silly voices and characters left the audience in stitches and his dream of becoming a comedian was born. Eleven years later a friend of his pushed a very scared Gabriel Iglesias back onto a stage for the first time in over a decade. April 10th of 2005 will mark the eight-year anniversary of the day Gabriel made his dream of becoming a comedian a reality.
"I get my material from things that happen every day," he says, using his 10-year high school reunion as an example. "I had too much to drink and I made an ass of myself. When they asked 'Who has been on TV?,' one of the girls handed me a mic. I said, 'I see three or four girls who turned me down in high school. But you know what? You girls got fat and now I drive a Hummer.' One of the girls tells me, 'You're fat too!' And I said, 'I was always fat. I kept my figure, why couldn't you?' It was the conversation of the night. I don't use writers. I use real life."
In his debut CD entitled, "Picachu… I See You," Gabriel talks about hanging out with his buddies. He does not want to be labeled as a 'Latino Comedian.' "It's just going to be funny. It won't have an all-Latino audience. It's going to be modern. I want to show people that Latinos are here, but we don't have to be stereotypical."
What is your full name?
Gabriel Iglesias: Gabriel J. Iglecias. My Dad wanted to name me Jesus Jose Iglesias, but my Mom said there were too many Jesus’s and Jose’s in
Mexico, and since my Dad wasn't there when I was born she took it upon herself to name me Gabriel. If you notice my last name above has a C where
there should be an S. Well my Mom was pissed off that my Dad was not there for his only son's birth, so to mess with his “machismo” ( Dumb Mexican
Pride ) she changed the spelling of my last name to annoy him and later in life Me. Every time I check into an airport and they can't find my
last name in the system, it's because 28 yrs earlier my Dad couldn’t get his macho ass to the hospital!!!!!
Where did you grow up?
Gabriel Iglesias: I spent most of my life in Long Beach, but I was born in San Diego. My Mom and I lived in a couple of different cities before
we finally migrated to Long Beach. We made pit stops in Riverside, Corona, Santa Ana, Baldwin Park, Compton ( Don’t ask ) and then Long Beach.
What do you like to do when your not performing?
Gabriel Iglesias: Hanging out with my family and friends so I can hear them give me crap about how they have real jobs.... haters!!!! I love them
though. My mom is my biggest fan.... even though she still doesn’t get the jokes. Aside from hanging out I love tv, movies, play-station (Madden),
going to Vegas, chatting online, meeting new people and sleeping.... a lot!
Are you married or single?
Gabriel Iglesias: I'm single, no wife or girlfriend. I am on the road a lot so I don't have a lot of time to be involved in a relationship. That
part kinda sucks!
What do you look for in a woman?
Gabriel Iglesias: Me!!! ok bad joke! Honestly, women who can be silly with me is a huge turn on. Ethnicity is not a factor. She has to be legal!
I am not going to jail for anyone! She must have a nice smile! I don't care how sexy the women may be, if the grill reminds me of the Chupacabra
its not gonna work. I won’t make you laugh if I gotta see a messed up smile. Other than that I love all women short, tall, thin or fluffy. All
women are beautiful!....... even the “Dentally Disadvantaged”.
What is your strongest quality outside of your sense of humor?
Gabriel Iglesias: My patience is number one! I never try to rush things because then they don’t turn out right. I hang out with a bunch of lagers
and have yet to snap on them for dragging their feet. Anyone else would have left them behind.

Comedian Gabriel Iglesias: Still Standing!
A bad case of “cellphone addiction” is actually a laughing matter for comedian Gabriel Iglesias.
As seen in the 2006 hit NBC reality TV series “Last Comic Standing,” Iglesias was — much to the dismay of his family and friends who were cheering him on — kicked off for using his BlackBerry wireless phone to call his girlfriend.
“They weren’t thrilled,” said Iglesias, 30, of his family’s response to the incident during a phone interview with MÁS. “They don’t think that anyone could have beat me, but they think that I was the one who did it to myself, and still feel that way.”
According to NBC show’s rules, all contestants signed a contract forbidding the use of any communication devices to the outside world other than the “Last Comic Standing” house phone where contestants lived for the duration of the competition.
Iglesias knew he’d been caught, but assumed everything was OK when nothing happened right away.
“They didn’t kick me off for having the phone, which is weird,” he explained to MÁS while — ironically — using his infamous BlackBerry from his home in Southern California, where he was a bit under the weather and fighting the flu after a performance in El Paso, Tx. “They waited a couple of days after I was caught. You would think that if you get busted for something, you’d get booted right then and there. NBC waited three days, let me play three more days, then threw me off one day before everybody was supposed to go to the next round.”
Suddenly ousted from a show many critics and fans assumed he would win, the popular stand-up comedian now looks to spin an embarrassing moment into comedy gold with a special Comedy Central taping of two shows Jan. 13 at the Fox Theater in Bakersfield.
Appropriately titled, “Still Standing,” the show will first air on cable, and later in the year, will be released as a special edition DVD.
“I chose Bakersfield to do the show because it was the first theater I ever got to perform at in 1997,” Iglesias said. “I went up there and did a show with comedian Willie Barcena, and (Latin-soul group) Tierra. I remember dancing with Willie onstage during ‘Together, Baby!’”
From his early beginnings performing as an amateur at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater in New York — where his mother once warned him that “Te van hacer Booooo!” — to being a regular guest on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” comedy’s fluffy funny man continues carving his own niche in a crowded, and often controversial, profession.
“Venting my issues into a funny story is my style,” Iglesias said. “I paint pictures with characters and sound effects. Ninety-percent of my act is about me and things that I’m going through.”
And lucky for Iglesias, going through the controversy on “Last Comic Standing” hasn’t seemed to hurt his career.
“I’m still very fortunate because I’m not suffering careerwise. Everything is still happening, and opportunities keep presenting themselves,” he said. “I’ve had some ups and downs, but I think it’s the time when you’re down that helps you to get back up on your feet.”
Quick on the draw, the buoyant comic also commented on current affairs casting dark shadows on his profession.
Actor Michael Richards (“Kramer” on TV’s Seinfeld) made recent headlines for lashing out at audience hecklers with a barrage of racial epithets,
including the “N” word, caught on tape.
“He’s not a comedian,” said Iglesias of Richards. “He’s an actor that took a chance, and it didn’t work. I’m just afraid that people are getting
sensitive now. Every time you mention the thing about Kramer, the whole audience goes, ‘Ooohhh.’”
Iglesias acknowledges that the use of the “N” word is not uncommon in stand-up comedy.
“It’s just the way that he (Richards,) said it,” Iglesias said.
For Iglesias, who manages to stay out of the tabloids for outlandish behavior in his personal and stage life, it’s still comforting to know there’s always room back home if he should slip.
“If I wasn’t a comedian, I’d probably be living with my mom,” he laughed. “I tried to move my mom into a new house, but she didn’t wanna move to Arizona. She’s like (imitating his mom), ‘No, I’m not going.’”
“I was like, ‘Fine, don’t go,’ so I let my sister live in it.”
Born in San Diego, Iglesias recently moved back to Long Beach, Ca., just a few blocks from the old apartment he called home as a struggling comedian.
“I’ve been living here for the last couple of months now,” he said. “When my brother sees the old apartment, he says, ‘Hey, that’s the place you got evicted from, huh? You should buy it, and kick everybody out.’”
One of Iglesias’ most cherished memories growing up involved picturing himself onstage at the Apollo, testing his comedic chops on a tough audience.
So does he still watch the late night variety show after successfully reaching his goal?
“Absolutely,” Iglesias said. “I caught it a couple weeks ago. I think Whoopi Goldberg’s hosting it now. I don’t watch the entire show. I catch a little bit of it, and go, ‘Wow!’”
Iglesias added that he looks forward to his upcoming appearance in Bakersfield and wants his fans to understand the magnitude of the upcoming Comedy Central taping at the Fox, which will include a montage of Bakersfield scenes when it airs.
“Every time I come back to Bakersfield, it’s been a great response,” said Iglesias. “It’ll be pretty big for both of us.”
After the taping, touring will take up most of the year for Iglesias as he promotes the comedy special and its DVD release.
“I’ll be touring throughout the year, so look for the big bus, it’s a ‘beater,’” he said jokingly. “They’re renting me the old Tigres del Norte bus with tiger patterns.”
