Brahmanandam Kanneganti (born 1 February 1957), popularly known as Brahmanandam is an Indian actor. He has appeared in several movies in Telugu. With over 750 films, he holds the Guinness World Record for appearing in the maximum number of films in a span of 20 years in a single language. He has been awarded with the Padma Shri by the Government of India, an honorary doctorate by Acharya Nagarjuna University and Nandi Award by the Government of Andhra Pradesh among others.
Background
Brahmanandam Kanneganti was born on 1 February 1957 in Sattenapalli, India. Prior to films, he was a Telugu instructor in Attili, a town in the West Godavari district in the state of Andhra Pradesh. He began his film career with writer-director Jandhyala's Aha Naa Pellanta in 1987. He has prominently appeared in roles with comic sense. He has also appeared in Tamil movies.
Family
He is married to Lakshmi and they have two sons, Raja Goutham and Siddharth. Raja Goutham is an film actor too and has appeared in Pallakilo Pellikooturu in a leading role.
Awards
Acharya Nagarjuna University awarded Brahmanandam an honorary doctorate award.
He has been selected for 2005 year's Allu Award instituted in the memory of Allu Rama Lingaiah. On 1 October 2005, the award was presented to him at a function in Hyderabad. The award consists of a Swarna Kankanam (Translation: Gold bracelet), a citation and a souvenir.
He recently earned a spot in the Guinness World Records for acting in 754 Telugu films in 20 years. It is because no actor in the whole world has ever performed the feat of acting in so many films in just 20 years, in just one language.
In January 2009, the Government of India bestowed the coveted title of Padmasri on Brahmanandam for his contributions to art.
As on 1 May, he acted in about 840 Telugu movies, a record, which made him reach the Guinness Book of World Records!
Selected for Nandi Award for best male comedian for 2008 film, announced in 2009. This was for the film Ready.
In the media
Brahmanandam foreyed into the small screen by conducting a quiz show called Brahmi 10 Lakh Show on iNews Telugu TV News Channel. This is show very similar to the popular Indian quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
